11 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Uganda

You arrive at Entebbe International Airport which is the principal International Airport of Uganda. This marks the start of your 11 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari. Located about 45 minutes from the main campus of Kampala International University, near the town of Entebe, on the shores of Lake Victoria, and approximately 40.5 km by road south-west of the central business district of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. At Entebbe International Airport you meet our professional guide who transfers you to the hotel of your choice in Kampala.

Day 2: Kampala to Murchison Falls via Zziwa Rhinos

After an early breakfast, our professional guide will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to start your drive to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary situated in Nakasongola District, near Nakitoma Village, in the north of Kampala along Kampala-Gulu highway.  It takes about 3 hours to drive there; this is about half way of the journey to Murchison Falls National Park. Established in 2005, the sanctuary was used to re-introduce the Rhinos by the Rhino Fund Uganda. Ziwa is the only place where you can track rhinos on foot; it is really great and exciting as you watch the white rhinoceros. After this amazing visit to rhinos, we leave the sanctuary to complete your drive to Murchison Falls National Park. On arrival, you will check-in at a hotel of your choice, ranging from budget to luxury hotels.

Day 3: Balloon flight in Murchison Falls

No time to waste! Wake up early and be taken to the launch site for the hot air balloons. While here, you will be able to watch them do last minute preparations like pumping air into the balloon before you could soar high during the morning sunrise then given a brief on the safety precautions, rules and regulations as you get ready to hop aboard the balloon. When up there, you will be able to have a great view of the Savannah below you teaming with all kinds of wildlife. Most of this happens above the treetops to make it much easy for you to see the majority of the wildlife. Admire herds of buffalo, elephants, Rothschild’s giraffe and other game as seen from above. In the air, you have the chances to take many great photos of scenery, landscape and wildlife below.  The Balloon ride lasts for about an hour after which the balloon lands and guests receive their participation certificates. After the game drive, you will return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon after lunch, prepare for a boat trip on placid Victoria Nile, upstream, to the base of the fall. The Murchison Falls National Park derived its name from the Murchison falls and it offers boat trips to the bottom of the falls with en-route sights of hippos, buffaloes, crocodiles and various bird species. Head back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Murchison Falls to Kibale Forest National Park

No time to waste! Have an early breakfast and drive for some 8 hours to Kibale Forest National Park. During this journey, you will have the opportunity to take beautiful photos of the countryside and amazing views of the country. You will make a stop in Fort Portal for a delicious lunch before completing your transfer to Kibale Forest National Park. Day 5: Kibale Forest National Park to Queen Elisabeth National Park

Wake up at sunrise, breakfast and start your chimpanzee trekking adventure in Kibale forest, reputed for having the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. In addition to a large community of chimpanzees, there are 13 other primate species, including red, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed, vervet and blue monkeys, grey-cheeked Mangabeys, olive baboons, as well as four species of nocturnal primates.  After the trek, you will head back to the park headquarters to start the transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park while enjoying the lunch enroute. Next is the visit to Katwe, the crater where salt has been mined for centuries. Discovering Lake Kitagata fed by salty hot-springs with unforgettable spectacular views. Katwe crater and Lake Kitagata tour gives you a unique insight into the process of salt mining. During the tour of the lake you will see community members at work, cross the mud walkways. Head to the hotel of your choice for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Boating & Game Drive Into the Queen Elisabeth National Park

After your heavy breakfast at the hotel, you commence your early morning game drive through the Kasenyi track in search for lions, hyenas, buffaloes, leopard, water buck, bush bucks, bird species such as fish eagles, ibis and vultures among others. You head back to your hotel for lunch and freshen up. Boating in the afternoon. This is a launch cruise along the amazing Kazinga channel, a major highlight of the safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park. While boating, you get closer to great numbers of wildlife including elephants, crocodiles, hippos and buffaloes. For bird watchers there are many bird species such as eagles, pelicans, kingfishers, doves, herons and jacana converging at the channel waters to enjoy a sip of the natural waters.

Head back to your hotel & relax overnight.

Day 7: Ishasha Game Drive to Bwindi National Park

Wake up early, breakfast and head to Ishasha sector, the southern part of the park for game drive. The Ishasha sector is notably recognized for its resident Tree climbing lions that are an exceptional attraction and one among the highlights on all safaris taken within Queen Elizabeth National park. Throughout the entire world there are only two places in which you can find populations of these tree-climbing lions, one being in Lake Manyara national park found in Tanzania and the other being the Ishasha sector within Queen Elizabeth National Park.  It is a very breathtaking sight to see the King of the animals perched up high on one of the branches of the huge fig trees in this area, lazily resting away as the day goes by. In addition to the fascinating population of the Tree Climbing Lions within the Ishasha visitor will also come across huge buffalo herds, numerous antelopes that keep crossing your path, there are also a number of elephants that have actually settled within the Ishasha area and also watch out for the numerous hippos an actually the only thing not plentiful here are tourists. Day 8: Bwindi Gorillas Trekking to Lake Bunyonyi

No time to waste! Wake up, breakfast and drive the short journey to Buhoma gate of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. With packed lunch in your carry-on, the guide will deliver you to the tracking start point before 8:00 am for registration and a briefing on what to expect before commencing your tracking. You will spend one hour with the gorillas sometimes moving around to stay with the gorillas or following them. The guide will ensure you are in the best spots to take the most beautiful pictures and experience the breathtaking experience properly. It is an extraordinary feeling. Before leaving the park, please remember to collect your certificate that confirms that you have tracked gorillas in Uganda. After the completion of your gorilla trekking, we transfer you to Lake Bunyonyi. Overnight at a hotel of your choice near the Lake.

Day 9: Lake Bunyonyi to Lake Mburo National Park

Wake up around 8AM, enjoy your breakfast, and explore a bit of Lake Bunyonyi where activities include canoeing, boat riding, local tours, swimming, hiking the highland near the lack, pygmy village tour and birding.   In the afternoon your guide will transfer you to Lake Mburo National Park, a four hours’ drive journey. On the arrival, check in the hotel of your choice within the park, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Lake Mburo National Park Bird Watching

Lake Mburo national park is known as the ‘Home for Zebras’. The park’s well developed Acacia woodland harbors a number of wildlife species and it is the best place in the country to see the gigantic eland antelope, as well as topi, impala and several acacia-associated birds. Lake Mburo National Park presents good wild game viewing possibilities especially with its arrangement of game walking safaris which allows one to explore wild game on foot.

The best birding spots in Lake Mburo National Park include the swampy valleys of Warukiri and Miriti, and the roadsides between Rwonyo camp and the jetty. There are also ideally-situated viewing platforms at the salt lick, in Miriti Valley, and in Rubanga Forest. Species observed at these locations include the Rufous-bellied Heron, Bateleur, Coqui Francolin, Grey Crowned Crane, Black-bellied Bustard, Brown-chested Lapwing, Emerald-spotted Wood-Dove, Brown Parrot, Red-headed Lovebird, Ross’s Turaco, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Green Wood-hoopoe, Common Scimitarbill, White-headed Barbet, Red-faced Barbet, Nubian Woodpecker, Red-shouldered Cuckoo-shrike, Long-tailed Cisticola, Yellow-breasted Apalis, White-winged Tit and Finfoot among others. The rare Red-faced Barbet only seen in Lake Mburo National Park is one of the of the forest’s featured species. After your safari, you will return to your hotel for lunch and siesta. As you have the rest of the day to yourself, you can try the evening game drive or rest and enjoy some local drinks and other offerings at your hotels.

Day 11: Lake Mburo National Park to Kampala

As your 11 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari comes to an end, you will wake up at sunrise, have your breakfast and get ready to start the transfer to Kampala with a stop at the Equator Crossing. The Uganda equator crosses into Uganda at a point situated 75km south of Kampala along the Kampala–Masaka road. Here enjoyable activities to top up on your 11 days Uganda Discovery safari include purchase of souvenirs and crafts and taking some fun pictures among others. You may also test some local food here during your lunch then after lunch, you continue your way to Kampala.
